Larue County is famous as the birthplace of our nation’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. His presence looms large throughout the county. The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site, Abraham Lincoln Museum, and the Abraham Lincoln Boyhood Home on Knob Creek are some of the most popular places that honor this great president.

Excellent access to the interstate highway system is helping to grow the Larue County industrial community. The Lincoln Parkway provides quick access to I-65, the Bluegrass Parkway, and the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Larue County residents take great pride in their schools. Modern facilities and modern instructional approaches make the Larue County School System a model districts seeking to improve educational opportunities.

Downtown Hodgenville looks like a postcard picture of an idyllic rural community. In the center is the town square, with a statue of Abraham Lincoln, surrounded by banks, small shops, and restaurants. There are many early 20th century buildings that are listed on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. Hodgenville was designated as a Preserve America City by First Lady Laura Bush. In 2011 the downtown area received a beautiful facelift as part of the national celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday.

One of the best-known places in Larue County is the Lincoln Jamboree. Since 1954, this country music show has been a Saturday night destination for people from throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. Owner and emcee Joel Ray Sprowles may well be Larue County’s second most famous son.
