Downtown Hodgenville looks like a postcard picture of an idyllic rural community. In the center is the town square, with a statue of Abraham Lincoln, surrounded by banks, small shops, and restaurants. There are many early 20th century buildings that are listed on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. Hodgenville was designated as a Preserve America City by First Lady Laura Bush. In 2011 the downtown area received a beautiful facelift as part of the national celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday.
One of the best-known places in Larue County is the Lincoln Jamboree. Since 1954, this country music show has been a Saturday night destination for people from throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. Owner and emcee Joel Ray Sprowles may well be Larue County’s second most famous son.
