Meade County residents enjoy all of the good things associated with rural living, while still being within a quick drive of a large metro area. Located along the Ohio River, Meade County is a great place for people who appreciate outdoor life. There are plenty of places to hunt, fish, and experience blue skies and fresh air.

Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area is a 2155 acre Meade County treasure, with activities that include picnicking, camping, horseback riding, mountain biking, and shooting ranges. Doe Valley Golf Club is a semi-private golf course with lake and gated community. Brandenburg Riverfront Park, which offers a fabulous view of the scenic Ohio River, is the site of Civil War reenactments, concerts, and an incredible Christmas light display. History buffs will appreciate the General John Hunt Morgan Trail.

Meade County has experienced significant growth as a result of changes that BRAC brought to Fort Knox in 2010. There are new schools bringing excellent educational opportunities to Meade County children. New subdivisions have brought a wide range of new homes, available at competitive prices, to people who choose to make Meade County their home. There are also new roads that improve access to Fort Knox as well as I-64, which is across the Ohio River in southern Indiana.

Like most places in our region, Fort Knox is a major employer. Another important part of the Meade County economy is Monument Chemical Company. These combine with family farms, a growing retail presence, education, and banking to create a vibrant economy.
